Carpet Direction Installation
This is the simplest carpet tile installation pattern.
Carpet direction installation. Provide an appropriate surface upon which to install carpet including confirmation of concrete moisture and alkali conditions cleanliness surface quality and floor levelness. Stretch the padding so that the pieces are butted tightly. Use a staple hammer tacker to fasten the carpet pad against the edge of the tack strip. But even for non patterned carpeting you can detect the direction of the carpet s pile by looking at it from different directions in strong light.
The manufacturer recommends how to orient the tiles. Consider carpet pile direction when seaming. Reposition your body to examine the carpet in another direction. Keep in mind that your new floor coverings need to be installed over a structurally sound subfloor.
Any two carpet tiles facing in different directions will appear to be slightly different colors. Step 5 staple any pad seams. Staple the seam of the pad alternating staples so that they aren t beside one another. Ideally you would install carpet on stairs as if the roll were rolling down the stairs.
Any damage from insects water or other problems should be repaired prior to carpet installation. The carpet layer has finished and at first glance it looks great. A carpeted surface should be. Obviously if your carpet has a pattern seaming two pieces requires careful attention to matching the pattern between adjoining pieces.
After the old flooring and carpet cushion have been pulled up vacuum the subfloor before the new carpet is installed to minimize dirt and dust. If you don t see dips buckles or divets in the surface of the carpet your installer did a good job. Provide drawings with the approved location of seams edge moldings carpet direction and accessories adhesives cushion etc. On stairways the pile should sweep down.
Install carpet pad so that any seams will be at right angles to those in the carpet. Tape neighboring pieces together with 2 to 3 inch masking tape or as directed by the manufacturer. Generally seams should run in the same direction as most foot traffic. Mix carpet tiles from different packs to account for dye lot variations.
Essentially you can either rotate tiles or offset them to create patterns. Carpet tiles will have arrows on the back that indicate the direction of the carpet pile. The installation options for square carpet tiles are fairly limited but offer the opportunity to create patterns and designs that can t be achieved with broadloom carpet. Due to the nature of the carpet this is the direction it should be installed whether on the floor or stairs.
